LinkedIn Clicks: Increase Website Traffic From Your LinkedIn Profile

LinkedIn is vastly underrated as a pipeline builder. Your ideal clients are there and ready to meet you!

I’ve shared tactics in the past around creating content for LinkedIn, growing your audience, and utilizing LinkedIn’s search tool to find future clients.

But today I want to share something that’s so incredibly simple, you’ll be shocked that you haven’t done it yet. This small fix can increase traffic and leads to your website by A LOT - all coming from LinkedIn.

Don’t believe me? In the last 30 days, LinkedIn has been the top source of clicks to the Growthitect website — over 900 clicks!

Here’s the deal: many architects on LinkedIn struggle to drive traffic to their personal or firm websites. Despite having compelling profiles filled with experiences, achievements, and skills, they miss out on a crucial element: direct website links.

Without these links, potential clients (or employers) who visit your LinkedIn profile have no easy way to learn more about you or take the next step, whatever that may be.

LinkedIn can be time consuming. You might be updating your bio, generating content, and engaging with others on LinkedIn, which will help to increase your LinkedIn profile views. But if there are no ways to visit your website from your profile, then those profile views don’t mean much.

Instead of increasing leads, you get:

  • Limited accessibility: Prospective clients can't easily find more information beyond the LinkedIn profile.

  • Missed engagement: Losing visitors who might not take the extra step to search for your website independently.

  • Underutilized (free) features: LinkedIn is one of the few social media platforms that provide multiple opportunities to showcase external links.

Let’s fix these issues together, eh?

Adding links to your LinkedIn profile

I’m going to show you three different spots that you can add a link to your website from your LinkedIn profile. Altogether, this will provide those profile peepers (eg. future clients) three additional ways to continue learning more about you and/or your services.

One quick note before jumping in: I highly recommend that you share the same link in all three locations. This will help consolidate your traffic and direct people to the best next step.

01 // Add a custom button

This will appear at the top of your LinkedIn profile - prime real estate!

  1. Go to your profile and click “Add custom button” or click the edit pencil “✏️” and scroll down to the bottom to the “Add customer button” link.

  2. Select the “Link” option

  3. Paste your website link

  4. Add a link text (like a CTA)

  5. Click the “Save” button

Congrats - you’ll now see a link at the top of your profile!

02 // Add a featured link

Every LinkedIn profile has the option to include a “Featured” section. When you scroll down a bit, between “Resources” and “Activity”, you’ll notice a “Featured” section.

(If you don’t see yours, then head back up to the top of your profile and click “Add profile section” > “Featured” - your section will be available below now.)

Here’s how to add your website link to it:

  1. Click the “+” icon in the top right

  2. Select “Add a link”

  3. Paste in your website link

  4. Add a Title but don’t include a description (it adds an additional click for your visitors that isn’t necessary)

  5. Upload a new thumbnail image (optional)

  6. Click “Save”

Congrats - now you have a featured link!

03 // Add an experience link

Now we’re moving down towards the bottom of your profile where you list your experience. Believe it or not, you can add a link here too! See:

  1. Click the pencil icon “✏️” in the top right of the “Experience” section.

  2. Go to your current firm and click the “✏️” icon again.

  3. Scroll down to the bottom and click “Add media”.

  4. Click “Add a link”.

  5. Repeat steps 4-6 from the featured link process.

Congrats - people that review your experience will now be able to visit your website with a single click!

TL;DR

Your LinkedIn profile isn’t a static page. It’s dynamic - potential clients and employers are visiting your page ready to learn more or take the next step.

Increase high-quality traffic from your LinkedIn profile by adding your website link in three distinct places:

  1. Add a custom button

  2. Add a featured link

  3. Add a link to your experience

Insanely simple and surprisingly effective. That’s the best kind of growth tactic 🚀
